Attitude Adjustment

I walked in the gym a few weeks ago, looking to get a quick workout in before I had to go back to work.
I was tired, and honestly, I didn’t want to be there. My attitude was not good. I went anyway. Once I got there (which is more then half the battle…showing up) I started my training and didn’t feel much better after the first two sets. I just did not want to be there.
I thought about leaving, packing it in, starting over tomorrow. As I walked towards the locker room, I stopped…took a deep breath…changed the song on my Ipod and then, decided to change my attitude. I didn’t stretch, jump up and down, slap my face, growl, grunt, or even pump my arms back and forth like Hulk Hogan.
Simply, I just decided to change my attitude. I smiled, set 2 goals for myself and started over.
It was one of the best training sessions that I have had in a long time. I left the gym 45 minutes later, feeling awesome. I increased my weight and reps in almost every exercise, and knew that I made a huge impact on my own physical development that day.
Attitude is the most important thing when training, in my opinion. I have had incredible programs, great training partners, and every other advantage you can think of…however, if you don’t have the right attitude when you walk through the doors of your gym, you are going to lose out.
Tips for crushing your personal training sessions:
· Set a few goals when you get the gym. Examples might be to go up in weight in every exercise, or to do 2 more minutes of HIIT then you did before, or do an extra set of arms before you leave.
· Turn up your personal intensity when you walk through the gym doors. Don’t start off by chatting it up with anyone, instead, put your earphones on, turn up the music and get focused on having the best session of your life. Talking to people kills momentum, and intensity. If you are a gym talker…stop now and reinvent yourself in the gym. You are not there to talk, you are there to train and make progress
· Find the hardest working person in the gym, and make it your mission to outwork them on this day. Don’t focus on that person, instead check out their intensity and make sure you match it and then exceed it. Don’t leave until you know you outworked everyone in that room.
· Make an intense playlist for your Ipod and play it loud. Music can and will change your attitude pretty fast. Get a long playlist ready of your favorite, but intense music. Use music that pumps you up and puts you in the right frame of mind.
What ever it takes to give you the right attitude, make sure you find it. Working out can be hard enough for many people. There is no reason to waste your time and energy spinning your wheels and going through the motions. If you are going to do it, do it right. Change your attitude and watch your results change for the better too.

Your attitude can definitely kill or bring new fire to your fitness routine, which will have a direct impact on whether you reach your goals. It helps to establish both short-term goals and long-term goals, that way you always know what you are working towards and can keep your eye on that prize. To stay positive, I constantly tell myself that each workout is putting me one step closer to whatever goal I may have set for the month. Great Post!
