Everyday is New Years Day.

This might be my least favorite time of the year when training people. After Halloween, things start to fall apart with clients. Thanksgiving is coming up and then the winter holidays. This is, traditionally, when people start to “fall off” and stop with their training. If you really think about it, this is the worst time of year to do this.
Most people have the thought that they will start back up after New Years. New Years seems to be that “magical” time of year when everyone takes stock of their situation, gets motivated and then back in the gym. Usually by this time, a couple of months have gone by with little or no meaningful exercise and a lot of overeating and drinking. All of the hard work from the summer and fall seems to go out the window. Weight is gained, fitness is out the window and these people have to start all over. It can take months to get back to the level where they were before, and the cycle continues.
The best way to combat this is to declare (to yourself) that everyday is New Years day. What I mean is; why do people wait until one day each year to get their life together? In terms of fitness, why do people destroy months of hard work, in a few short months, only to have to start all over again in January?
If everyday is like New Years day, you find importance in all days. The fitness journey is a real journey with no real end. If you follow through and continue to train and work hard throughout the holidays, you can eat and drink and have some fun without destroying everything.
Don’t wait for a “Special day” to get started, and don’t discontinue your training so you can “start fresh” again on New Years.
Make everyday New Years day.
