Everyday is New Year’s Day

New Years has come and gone already. We are just about a month out and I would bet that most people have either strayed away from their resolutions, haven’t started them yet, or totally forgot that they made them. New Year’s has become a joke in the fitness world, because year in and year out people make empty promises that are rarely kept.

Usually, if people don’t start their fitness journey within the first few weeks, they give up and go right back to where they were and await the next big day to make another promise. For some its their birthday, for others it might be Easter. Whatever happens and whatever people choose as their new launching point it doesn’t really matter.

I would like to propose another way of thinking…how about treating everyday as New Years day. In other words, why wait until your birthday, or Easter or even groundhog day to get going. Its never too late and each day that you waste waiting for the next big, important, landmark day to get started, is a day you are going to fall behind.

How about choosing tomorrow, or better, right now to make your resolutions, or set your goals. Once you do that, start immediately. Never leave the sight of setting a goal with taking at least one clear cut action towards achieving that goal.

Write down your top 5 fitness goals right now. Come up with 5 action plans you can do immediately to move towards achieving each one of those.

If you goal is to lose 5 pounds, your action item right now may be to find a nutritional plan that you can follow to help get you there. Find it, and start using it now. Another goal might be to start going to the gym tomorrow. Your action item may be to charge your IPOD, get your gym clothes out and ready, pack your gym bag, and schedule it in your book.

Whatever you do, make everyday New Years day. That way, if you have a set back, you can always start over. There is no need to wait for the next “important” day. Get going now! Remember, there is only about 15 weeks until Memorial Day. Will you be ready??
