Finding the Love

Quick question for you: Why do you workout or train?

Think about it right now.

If you are an athlete, the answer is easy.

If you are trying to lose a bunch of weight, the answer is easy.

What if you don’t really have anything to train for? What is it that drives you to workout and train, day in and day out? The answer to that question might just be the answer to your motivation…good or bad.

You see, if you don’t really have a good answer, you might be someone that is having trouble finding that constant and consistent motivation that is necessary to reach any of your fitness goals.

I told one of my long-time clients the other day to keep finding that “Reason” to train hard and follow her diet…to keep working on her motivation, always, because at this point, she really doesn’t have a big “reason” anymore to train. She has reached most of her goals and I was afraid that her great attitude would slip away.

She went on to say that she really doesn’t have much of a reason to train this hard anymore. At first, I was worried, but then she surprised me with her next response… she went on to tell me that she “just loves training hard, and that is what keeps her coming back for more!” She really doesn’t need a real “Reason” anymore. She just loves it, all of it.

She loves to sweat, loves the burn, loves the feeling of the heavy weights in her hands. She loves knowing that she just accomplished something she didn’t think was possible.

She found the “love.”

Whether you are training to lose that extra 10 pounds, training for an upcoming marathon, or just training to get stronger, always find your motivation.

Not everyone finds the love for training. Many people have to keep coming up with reasons to workout, get to the gym and stay on track. There is nothing wrong with that at all. Keep finding the reasons, the motivation and keep at it and you will get where you need to go. However, if you are lucky enough to find “the love” for training, you don’t need reasons anymore. The “love” gets you up in the morning, gets you to the gym early, and keeps you there late. The “love” is the final motivational aspect that you will ever need. Once you are bitten and find that love of training for the sake of training, you won. There wont be anything you cannot do, refuse to do, or give up on while training.

This client of mine is a 53 year old women, who trains harder than any of my current clients. She trains like she is on a mission. When she started, she wanted to lose weight. She did. She then, wanted to add some muscle. She did that too. Finally, she just wanted to get stronger. She also did that. At this point, I am breaking out my advanced workouts and training her like a high level athlete.

She performs cleans, clean and presses, dead lifts, barbell rows, squats, front squats and just about everything else. At the end of each session she can barely walk out of the gym. She is exhausted and loves every minute of it. She found the love.

Like I said, if you are lucky enough to find that love of training, then good for you. If you are not, then it is necessary to keep finding ways to motivate yourself. If you keep at it long enough, you might just find the love too. After that, its easy!
