Finding the time….

Excuses, excuses, excuses….we all have them. Some have more than others, but let us be clear…everyone has excuses. “I am too sore to train today!” “I don’t feel well” “I don’t feel like it, I am too tired!” Whether it is a valid excuse or not is not up to debate, it is an excuse nonetheless. Believe me, I have missed workouts because of exhaustion, soreness, colds, etc… everyone does. However, there are some excuses that I just don’t buy into…the big one is “I just don’t have the time to train or workout!”
I am not going to debate the intricacies of peoples lives, I know there are people out there that are more busy than I am, and don’t have a spare second, it seems, to do anything. With that said, I still don’t buy the excuse “I don’t have time to workout!”
We have to establish a few things first before we move on…for one, the person in question has to agree that working out or training is important. Whether it is essential for physical health, or stress reduction, or whatever…agree that exercising is important. Once that is established, it is necessary to “reorganize” or “rearrange” priorities and how you assign importance to things.
I ask some of my clients that start to lose motivation or tell me that they don’t have the time to think of working out or training the same way the think about paying their bills. Although they probably don’t want to, they know they must pay them. Therefore, whatever they are doing stops for the time being, or they find the time, and pay the bills. This happens because it is both necessary and important, whether you like it or not. Imagine if you looked at working out or training in the same light. Now it might be a stretch for people to think this way, but once you do, it helps to establish priority and finally time.
Having the time to exercise is all about rearranging schedules, and priorities. We already established that it is important for whatever reason you come up with, that is no longer up for debate. (If it still is, than you have not found any importance yet. Keep working at it!) Therefore, if it truly IS important, than you MUST find a time and a place for it in your schedule. Same as paying the bills.
I can almost guarantee that everyone has at least 30 minutes in their day that they can reserve for some kind of exercise or training. In most cases, people have way more time than this…once you start to look at your daily schedule, habits and how you spend your time, it will become clear to how much time you really have.
I never said it would be fun, and I never said you would have to enjoy it…but we established that it is important so it must be done. Once you are at this point, finding the time is easy. Use your weekends, nights, early mornings, or even lunch breaks. You can always find the time.
Pay your bills, get your workout in….there is always more time than you think..
