Small changes = Small fat loss

I just finished watching a segment on the Today Show about 4 simple things you can do to shed your unwanted fat. I was amazed at the advice that this “nutrition expert” told the public. It is no wonder people are fat and no wonder people struggle everyday to lose that weight.
In this segment her advice, while being sound and decent, really is not really what people that need to lose large amounts of weight really need to do.
She never once mentioned exercise.
Here is what she advised:
- Avoid beverages that have calories. Good advice and I agree.
- Substitute full fat dairy, for low fat dairy. Again, good advice.
- Avoid salad dressing and replace with oil and vinegar.
- Avoid starches at dinner time and replace with veggies.
All of this was great advice for cutting calories and fat out of your diet. With this plan, it was suggested that the average person would lose about 4-5 pounds of fat in 4 weeks. With a few small changes, a person could lose a small amount of fat.
So if this advice is so good, why write about my problems with this? Simple…most people that I deal with and people that I have encountered, really need much more than this. For one, people need to exercise. That should be obvious.
Secondly, many people out there need to lose much larger amounts of weight in a much quicker period of time. While 4 pounds a month is what the majority of people say is “normal and healthy” I do not necessarily agree. Many of my clients have lost much more in a month with more aggressive exercise and diet plans with no health problems. In fact, all of them are healthier then when they were overweight.
The overall issue that I have with this segment, is that so many people out there will watch shows like this, see this high profile nutrition expert and think this is the only way to go. I guess in the end, this advice is better than nothing, but in the long run, people that really need to shed a lot of pounds will still be left frustrated and in the end, fat.
That is why I really like the Warp Speed Fat Loss program. I reviewed it in an earlier blog, but I am ever more impressed with it now. The program is not for everyone; however, it is only for people that really want to lose fat and lose it fast. It is an extreme program, but it yields extreme results. The two guys who produced the program are top in the field and know their stuff. Check out my review here.
Whatever program people use, it needs to be something that can help people lose the fat that they really need to lose. It must include exercise and a sound nutrition plan.
The advice given in that segment on the Today Show, was indeed sound and good advice. It was about making small changes in your diet. In the end, it will get small results.

I work with a client right now who has lost 23 lbs in 6 weeks…was 327lbs now 304 and he thinks it is coming off too slow…hard for people to get it sometimes..takes a while to gain it..takes time to take it off..the loss is slowing down now of course but it is still gradual..
