The Surprise Class Reunion

I was out last night celebrating my brother’s 40th birthday with family and friends. While celebrating, I ran into a lot of people from high school. Since I moved back “home” I see people I went to high school with often and when I least expect to. Usually we catch up on old times, and talk about what we are all doing these days.
Every once in a while, I find myself in the presence of a pretty big group of old high school friends and acquaintances. It is surprising to me how many people have changed over the years. Some have lost some hair, others have gained or lost weight, and some are exactly the same as they were in high school.
The cool thing for me is to see a number of of these people that have taken great care of themselves. In a world of fast food, busy schedules, and high stress, it is rare to see people in their 30s and 40s that are in really good physical shape, so when I do, it is fun for me.
I am paid to help people get into shape, lose fat, and build muscle, while improving their all around health. My world consists of people that are driven to be in great shape and live out their lives healthy and happy. It is sad to see many of my old classmates already living in the “at-risk” category. Some come up to me and seek advice and others give me a bunch of “reasons” why they are in the shape that they are…I do my best to listen and offer up any advice that I think they can use and that they might take.
I have had a lot of clients over the years seek me out to help them get into the best shape of their lives for their upcoming class reunion. They want to look their best and impress their former classmates. Most need to lose some weight and tone up. It’s a great goal and these clients are very driven. After weeks, sometimes months of hard training they are proud to show off their bodies. Their reunion is always a success and they feel better about themselves than ever.
What about the surprise class reunion? What happens when you are out and about and happen to run into old friends and old classmates without having any idea that you will see people from your past? Will you be ready? Will you be proud to show off who you are or will you hide and come up with excuses? Surprise reunions can happen at any time. You never know when you will run into that classmate or old friend.
My stance is simple: Always be ready. If you have some pounds to lose or if you need to put on some much needed muscle, why not start now? Don’t wait until your 20 or 30 year reunion to get into shape. You need to change your mindset to believe that any day can be a reunion day. You need to want to be proud of who you are and how you look. Better yet, you need to make sure you are healthy enough now to make it to your 50th reunion.
- Always be ready. You never know whom you will run into and when that unexpected, surprise reunion will happen. Don’t be embarrassed about who you are or how you look. Take control of your physical being.
- Start training now for life. If you need to get into good shape, start right away. The sooner the better.
- Don’t assume that you will find time one day. Life usually gets busier and more hectic. Clear some time and get moving. No waiting.
- Hire a trainer or buy an online program you can do on your own.
Whatever you decided to do, get moving with it. Don’t wait until your next planned reunion or upcoming wedding…you just never know when that surprise reunion will occur.
