The World I know

Just a random collection of thoughts at this moment of things I know to be true (or at least my opinion of such things)

• People are much more likely to lose weight and reach their fat loss goals when they have social support from others that share in their goals. (i.e. weight watchers, boot camps, other support groups.) it is much harder when people go about it alone.

• Getting strong (I mean really strong) has much more to do with your mental outlook and preparation then your current program. Don’t be afraid to take chances and push through limits you think you cannot push through. If you are prepared physically, and are stuck at a certain level, add some weight and go for it. You might be surprised at what you can do. Make sure you out perform yourself and your best lifts each week.

• Most people are more interested in solutions instead of explanations. If someone asks you for help, help them if you can. Don’t waste your time and theirs giving them a dissertation on “why” it works, just give them the solution. You both will be better off. I read too many blogs and articles from experts out there that write 5 paragraphs on the science behind the fix, and only spend 2 sentences on the actual fix.

• If you have been to physical therapy more than once for the same problem, maybe its time to try something new. My Unbreakable system might just be for you. Try it, you might just feel better than you have in years.

• If you are training hard, and doing the right things with your diet, but are still not making progress, it might be time to be checked out by your doctor (i.e. hormone levels, thyroid, adrenals, etc…)

• Corrective Exercise is not the same as physical therapy/Rehab. If you are a trainer who prides him/herself as a corrective exercise specialist, don’t confuse the two. You have no business rehabbing someone unless you are qualified to do so.

• Hands on experience is a much better indicator of expertise then certifications, books read, seminars attended and degrees touted.

• With all of the recent interest in vampire movies and books (i.e. Twilight) how come you never see any fat vampires? Just sayin…

• People that are trying to lose fat expect to lose it all in a short month or so. Although this can be done with the right program they should remember how long it took to gain it all.

• People that walk their dogs and let them crap on your yard and don’t even think about cleaning it up, are on my top 10 list of most despised people.

• The Biggest Loser TV show is inspirational and I think it is great that so many people on the show achieved that incredible weight loss…but know this…the trainers on that show are dangerous and I cringe every time I watch them take someone that is untrained and 150 pounds over weight and make them perform exercises that most athletes should not be doing. Its only a matter of time before someone is seriously injured.

• Cheating on your diet can work if you do it the right way. Joel Marion has perfected this and for people that want to be able to lose fat and eat pizza should check out his “Cheat to Lose” program.

• People that tell me that they “can’t squat” because their doctor told them not to do it, might be really dumb. Those same people must never go to the bathroom, sit down at the kitchen table, get in and out of the car, etc… Squatting does not have to mean throwing a 400 pound barbell on your back. If you use the toilet, you are squatting.

• I had a lady tell me recently that I charged too much money for training. She went on to say that she loved what I did, her teenager loved how I trained him, he was getting incredible results, but I was just too expensive. I then watched her pull out of the parking lot in her brand new 2010 BMW. That was right after she told me that they were leaving for their vacation in Fugi…. I guess you get what you pay for.

• I had another lady take out a loan recently so she could pay for training. It was that important to her.

• There is NO good reason for the existence of TICKS. If someone knows a benefit of having them here on earth, I would like to hear it.

• Someone recently took exception with my blog post about how running to lose weight could do more harm then good. He went on to tell me all of the benefits of running. He then closed his email by telling me that he had to stop running because his knees hurt too much… Hmmmm….

don’t know where to leave this comment so it will to be relevant to this topic but i want to get this out to see if you can help

Also, I was wondering if you could give me your input. I went to my PT today and told him I have knee irritation when doing squats, bodyweight or with a barbell. He then checked my knees and said that I have a little arthritis cause the bones are rubbing on each other and that I shouldn’t squat or deadlift or do any power cleans or anything like that because they are bad for the knees.

I disagree and feel that the squats can help make my knees stronger if i do them with good form of course. When I do squat i feel like my quads, knees, and sometimes even calves for some reason are taking most of the stress. I think it could be because i’m not very flexible. It’s not necessarily like bad knee pain but more like irritation, like I know It shouldn’t be there and i feel stress being put on them.

What’s real strange is that a few months ago i felt i had the best flexibility/mobility that I have ever had. i was actually getting down below parallel and everything felt good, then suddenly a couple weeks after that I was doing squats and i could feel all the pressure being put on my quads, knees, and even calves, which was never the case.

Since then whenever i squat i feel it on the quads, knees, and calves.

    Any ideas or thoughts?
